A Bike Story started in July 1990 when Ed and Marilyn Boehmer received a life changing phone call as they were leaving the door on a bicycle tour. Hank, their adopted son was ready to be brought home. Enjoying his first bike ride at 10 days old, a love of cycling was bound to be in his future. Passing on their sense of adventure and passion of cycle touring to their son, Hank quickly begin setting out on adventures of his own. Following his Mother’s footsteps, he set out on his first multi week tour. Joined by comrade Evan Boller, they cycled from Astoria, Oregon to San Francisco, California. Riding across the Golden Gate Bridge finished the tour and started a greater hunger to travel by bike even further. Following the same route as his Mother again, he soon set off across country from Portland Oregon to Portland Maine, this time taking four of friends with him. Finishing Ptown to Pwhat, Hank came home with an idea of an even greater bike ride, one that would take 7 years to plan.

With a goal of sharing the stories of a five year world bicycle tour, we bring to you A Bike Story. As we cycle around the world, we will be documenting the journey to share with you at home. We hope that through these videos, photos and tales, we can inspire and encourage you to adventure by bike. Whether it is a weekend micro adventure or a year long journey, it is A Bike Story.
